Geyzing is a quaint tiny town in Sikkim that lies nestled amid the majestic Kanchenjunga mountains. Situated at a height of 6500 ft. the town is famous for the beautiful monasteries that attract numerous tourists every year. West Sikkim’s main headquarter, Geyzing also has the river Rangeet flowing across which adds to the charm of the place. The temperature is pleasant all round the year and as a result, Geyzing attracts tourists from across the country. However, if you wish to enjoy the natural wonders that this place offers, then you need to visit Geyzing in the summer season (March-June). During this time the temperature ranges between 180-250C. you can indulge in various adventurous activities and sightseeing too. During the monsoon (July- October) time, Geyzing receives moderate rainfall and the temperature ranges between 100-150C. Rain washed Geyzing appears truly mesmerizing and tourists can enjoy the lush green sights that the place offers. The winters (October-February) here are dry and chilly, with heavy snowfall. The temperature is extremely severe, between -100 and -300C. generally, people avoid traveling to Geyzing in such low temperatures. However, for the adventurous ones, you should carry heavy woolens with you.

How to reach Geyzing?

Geyzing is the capital of West Sikkim district and is the entry point to the district. The favorite tourist destination is connected with air, rail, and road network. Geyzing is merely 117 km from Gangtok.

By air : The fastest way to reach Geyzing is through the air. Both Bagdogra and Siliguri airports are closest to Geyzing and are connected to major Indian cities. You can hire a taxi or jeep to travel up to Geyzingwhich is 131 km from Bagdogra airport, which will take you around 4hours to reach Geyzing. From Siliguri airport, Geyzing is 133 km and will take 4.5 hours to reach your destination.

By train : New Jalpaiguri station (NJP) is the closest railway station to Geyzingwhich is just 127 km and takes around 4.5 hours to reach Geyzing. New Jalpaiguri is well connected to most Indian cities and therefore this is an excellent mode of reaching here.

By road : Geyzing can also be reached from various towns of Sikkim and West Bengal by means of buses and jeeps apart from cabs. Th place is well-connected with Kalimpong and Darjeeling via Jorethang. Buses connect Geyzing with Gangtok (117 km, 4 hr), Pelling (10 km, 30 min), Jorethang (39 km, 1.5 hr), Yuksom (41 km, 1.5 hr), Siliguri (124 km, 4 hr), Darjeeling (65 km, 2.5 hr) and Tashiding (31 km, 1 hr 15 min).

What to expect in Geyzing?

The ancient name of Geyzing (Gyalshing) means the King’s garden. The place was a royal garden attached to the Rabdentse royal palace. The town is home to Nepalese people and plays host to not just nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts but also Buddhist tourists. You can see different shades of Sikkim, the spiritual one and the one replete with the natural beauty of snow-clad Himalayan mountain ranges.

1.) For nature lovers, there is rhododendron sanctuary located in Singalila Range which is in full bloom from March to May. You can also view wild animals like Himalayan Langur, red panda, leopard, Khaleej etc.

2.) Stroll through one of the oldest markets, the Gyalshing Bazaar which is more than 100 years old. It is close to some of the beautiful monasteries and you can shop for all kinds of goods.
